Conceiving with Donated Eggs

Oocyte (egg) donation, available since the mid-1980’s, and has become the most effective option for women with low “ovarian reserve” or early/premature menopause, or some with severely poor egg quality.

The process involves harvesting oocytes from the ovaries of a woman with normal fertility and egg numbers (the “egg donor”). These eggs are fertilized with the sperm of the intended father and then, the resulting embryo(s) are transferred into the uterus of the intended mother. If pregnancy is established, the mother then becomes the “gestational” mother and experiences the pregnancy and birth, although she is not the genetic mother. Her partner providing the sperm is the genetic father.

​The entire process has been made easier with the advancement of “egg freezing”. Eggs may now be cryopreserved and shipped to the site of use, similar to the ease of procuring semen for donor insemination.Advanced Fertility Centers of West Texas​ assists women in the process after selecting donor eggs from domestic Donor Egg Banks. The donor’s characteristics are matched for the receiving woman’s personal preferences. An additional advantage of the egg banking process is the lower cost of using donated eggs, making this more affordable for many.

**Medical testing is required.  The patient may choose to have his blood work done at any lab, but we must receive the results no later than 10 business days after we receive the kit and the blood work must be no older than 30 days.  If we do not receive blood work by then, the patient will be charged quarantine fees.  

We recommend a minimum of 2 collections with 48-72 hours of abstinence before and in between collections, but no more than 120 hours (5 days) of abstinence as that may result in a poor sample.  If no viable cells are found, you will only be charged $150 for the semen analysis.  We will not store a sample that is not viable. 

Kits are only received at the lab for processing Tuesday-Friday, so the kit must be sent to us Monday-Thursday. Kits can be shipped the same day you call as long as you call by 2pm EST. You may call after 10am EST the next day to get the results of the specimen. Payment is required at the time of service. We cannot accept insurance, but we can provide paperwork that is necessary to file with your carrier.

Cryobank America:

The first step to becoming a sperm donor is filling out our pre-screening application. The pre-screening application will prompt potential donors to answer a series of questions. If our system accepts their application, they are invited to our laboratory for their initial analysis.
The initial analysis consists of a complete semen analysis and pre-screening to help determine if the donor is a good fit for the Cryobank America Sperm Donor Program. Our semen analysis includes raw counts, volume, pH, viscosity, sperm concentration, motility, vitality, morphology, and more. 
Once eligibility is determined, they will return for a second visit for additional screenings, interviews, and a medical history review. At this stage, contract agreements are delivered and signed. This step also assists our management team in getting to know the donor on a personal level. They are invited back for a final screening with our Medical Director if everything goes smoothly.
Our Medical Director screening begins with a complete physical examination. Once the donor is determined to be physically eligible, our on-site Medical Director administers a full blood workup, including infectious and non-infectious disease testing and genetic testing.
Finally, once these steps are complete, the donor is scheduled to meet with a Psychiatrist. All Cryobank America donors undergo a psychological screening to ensure mental health stability. The psychiatrist discusses the meaning and importance of becoming a Cryobank America Sperm Donor with each successful applicant.
